THING TWENTY-THREE--summary

1. My favorite things were library thing, you tube, and downloadable ebooks. I found these exercises fun.
2. 23 things has affected my lifelong learning goals by giving me more understanding and useful ways to communicate over the internet.
3. The fact that I could actually make heads or tails of some of the concepts with little or no help greatly surprised me.
4. The improvement that I can see that would make these exercises better would be to
make sure that there is someone on-site or readily available to participants when they need a little more explanation than is given in the emails. We were very fortunate at TCFL to have Jo Powers and Jane Steenken to fall back on.
5. I would definitely participate in another program such as 23 things.
6. My experience with 23 things was both frustrating and interesting. There were times when I thought my brain would start smoking. It was frustrating to know that the answers were right in front of me, but I couldn't see them. It was interesting to discover that there is so much to learn to enhance my knowledge of the on-line experience.

Thanks Jennifer!!

THING TWENTY-TWO--downloadable audiobooks

I really enjoyed this. I thought the netlibrary thing had way too many steps to it. However, Gutenburg was easy and fun to use. I did not like the computer read books. Way too slow and kind of scary. I could see myself using this if I had an MP3 player that is. It also makes me wonder why we stopped this service at TCFL. Jo? Scotti?

THING TWENTY-ONE--podcasts

This was a bit confusing for me. I tried yahoo, but had trouble adding the feed. I tried podcast.net, but needed a plug-in. I then tried podcastalley and was successfully. Although a bit cumbersome, I succeeded. I did need some assistance and I don't think I will be using many podcasts. An experience.

THING TWENTY--you tube

You tube is mucho fun. People will share anything. I chose this video because it showed me that even in Iraq there are good times and that there is time for levity. God bless our men in women of the service.

THING NINETEEN--Web 2.0 awards list

I chose to explore biblio. I found this a good site for finding used books at a good price. However, I do not think it would be a very useful tool in a library setting. It has reviews, but they seem to be all written by individuals rather than an "expert."

THING EIGHTEEN--online productivity/google docs.

I set up an account at google docs and played around with it. I wrote a document and sent it to Jennifer and myself. It was interesting and I thought it would be very useful in an office setting especially if you change computers alot. Not all computers have the same software installed.

THING SEVENTEEN--sandbox

I'm not sure I understand the purpose, but I was able to link my blog to it. Yippee!!

THING SIXTEEN--wikis

I found this thing very interesting. At first I thought it was a dumb idea. Anyone can add their two cents in so there would not necessarily be anything factual--a glorified blog. While some of the wikis I visited seemed to be just that, some were very informational. I especially liked the library success wiki.

THING FIFTEEN--Web 2.0

I thought this was very interesting. I especially like the thoughts posted in "Away from Icebergs." We truly must be the community and not just a part of it as Dr. Wendy Schultz said. Much food for thought.

THING FOURTEEN--Technorati

I got some really strange results when I searched "learning 2.0" all types of varied information. I don't think this is very necessary unless you are on the computer communicating with people 24/7. I think one blog is sufficient with a small circle of friends. I just don't get the whole talking to strangers thing. It's good to see what's out there, but I don't think I will be using it much.

THING THIRTEEN--del.icio.us

not so delicious for me. I cannot see myself having a purpose to use this site. The video on the tutorial was blurring and unreadable.

THING TWELVE--rollyo

great little tool and easy to use.

THING ELEVEN--Library Thing

I love this site. I even was able to get some suggestions for new reads.

THING TEN--meez

I have visited meez and generated a unique image. this was by far the easiest of the image generators. it just walked me right through it. meoww!!

THING NINE--adding news feeds

I have successfully signed up for merlin and have subscribed to the 23 things blog through them. I have also subscribed to library link of the day. I am still a bit confused by this all and am having trouble keeping track of exactly what i have signed up for and how they all link together, but it is getting a bit easier.

THING SIX--flickr mashups

I am a bit confused by flickr. There seems to be easier ways to do the same thing. Maybe I am trying to do too much at once. I will come back to this later. Maybe it will make more sense then.

I went back into flickr and had a little fun playing around with colors and mashups. I didn't actually make anything, but it was groovy.

THING EIGHT--bloglines

I just listened to the RSS in plain english and it was great. I wish the whole "23 things" was done like that. Keeping it simple on the Eastern Shore.

THING SEVEN--cell phones--yuk

sometimes cell phones are great to have--emergencies, life and death situations. however, when you start getting complaints because you dont always have your phone on or when your children call you to tell you they are hungry or fighting with each other.

there is something to be said for being out of touch.

THING TWO---today-10/17/07

So far, so good. I made it through the hectic morning of breakfasts, school clothes, lunches, cats, dogs turtles, and tadpoles. Everyone is off on their days and I am at work. Learning!!

Lifelong learning:
The hardest of the 71/2 habits for me is to teach/mentor because I sometimes feel like I am leaving out things or go about thing in a confusing way.

The easiest of the 71/2 habits for me is to view problems as challenges. I enjoy trying to come up with solutions and do not panic when things go wrong.
